Number of fintechstartups worldwide from 2018 to 2023, by region



 As of May 2023, there were 11,651 fintech (financial technology) startups in the Americas, making it the region with the most fintech startups globally. In comparison, there were 9,681 fintech startups in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) and 5,061 in the Asia Pacific region. In 2023, the United States ranked first in terms of the number of fintech unicorns globally, having roughly five times more of these companies than the United Kingdom, that ranked second.

Fintech investment landscape

Investment into the fintech sector grew sharply during the last decade, with global investment value reaching an all-time high in 2021. In 2022, however, investment activity slowed down considerably, with the Americas seeing a particularly large drop in investment value. The decline in the value of investments was most likely caused by the economic contraction .
Leading fintech companies

Services provided by fintech companies became a part of everyday life in recent years, with more and more fintechs emerging every year. Most fintech companies originate from the United States and China, and these countries were also home to seven out of the 10 largest fintech companies worldwide. Despite the dominance of the U.S. and China, in 2022, the most valuable fintech unicorn in the world was the Irish payment processing platform, Stripe.

  Number of Threads sign-ups worldwide as of July 10, 2023 Meta Platforms released a new social media platform called Threads on 5th July 2023, which is available in over 100 countries, excluding the European Union. Within two hours of its release, two million users had signed up for Threads, and within 24 hours, 30 million people were on the new online network.
